“Our close friend noted that there was a new sushi train in the Melbourne CBD, Sakura Sushi Train close to his home. As we were walking past, we saw they had an opening special where a couple of the coloured plates were only $2.80 each dish. The four of us had sushi train that weekend and it hit the spot, albeit a little pricey as we eat lots.”

“The bright neon sign for Sakura was hard to miss walking by on Lonsdale Street. I had trouble with the automatic door, against what the door wanted to do. Once into the restaurant, the shop was decorated in modern fluorescent images of a futuristic woman which was quite interesting. The sushi train itself extended from the entrance all the way to the back of the shop. It isn’t a big restaurant and is probably only catered for small groups of up to 4 if you want to sit together at a table or along the train.

All the staff were very friendly and spoke Japanese. They were helpful when called, but given it was a busy weekend, sometimes it took a while for them to get back to us for tea. We were able to both wait for food on the train (which was almost always full) or order directly from the staff.

Sakura had a good variety of different sushi, sashimi and other random snack dishes. The quality of the ingredients was also fresh, making it a pleasant dining experience. Sushi train dishes aren’t cheap for the size but I believe its the experience and the variety that makes Sushi train interesting. Given my husband I eat a large volume of dishes, it was quite expensive. However, we find the train experience is always enjoyable as we help ourselves to food and can order too if we don’t want to wait. I would definitely recommend trying it out.”
